The Law of Love |

David and his followers are perhaps best known
for their adherence to a doctrine which they referred to as the "Law of Love."
When explaining this, David made it very clear that the Law of Love was actually the
foundation of Christianity, the all-encompassing principle of sacrificial love for God and
others by which all Christians should conduct their lives. "We are totally in agreement with all of the principles of the specific religion of the Love of Jesus Christ, Bible Christianity, true Christianity. ... We believe God's Word, the Bible, and also in His more recent revelations through His prophets since then, all the truths of God! We believe Jesus is the Son of God, a sort of picture of God Himself, and [we believe] in His salvation through His Law of Love! "When Jesus came, He abolished all other laws but Love! He gave only one law which fulfills all the laws of the Bible, both old and new, and that is Love! -- For God and fellow man! "This is our specific religion and the religion of every Christian who truly believes in the Love of God in Jesus and the Bible! We are Christians and we believe in the religion of Jesus Christ, His Law of Love! We believe in the Bible, God, Jesus and Love -- because God is Love! (1 John 4:8). Jesus preached Love, and when asked what the greatest law was, He said God's only law now was Love. "'Love God ... and love thy neighbor as thyself! ... In these are all the law and all the prophets!' (Matthew 22:37-40). That's all the laws put together, the whole Bible -- Love! If you have Love you have everything! -- You are fulfilling all the laws of God!" [67] "Jesus said the Law of Love is all the law, as well as all the prophets! (Matthew 22:37-40). That's pretty broad coverage! That takes in the entire Old Testament, the law and the prophets. [J]esus said that's the whole works, the whole Bible, that's all the law -- love." [68] "True love, real love, God's Love, is all the religion you need! " [69] "Everything must be judged from the standpoint of love. Is it doing good or is it doing evil?" [70] "If we're keeping God's law of love, then we'll try not to hurt or offend anybody. We'll do our best to try to live in love, to help people without offending anyone." [71] "There are some things which were allowed by Moses' Law which are not allowed by the Law of Love given by Jesus! We are to love the Lord and love our neighbors as ourselves, and even this was not enforced under the Mosaic Law. "In the Mosaic Law there was virtually no forgiving, and it was 'an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth!' But Jesus said, in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, 6 and 7, 'Ye say that so-and-so. Well, what did the Law say?' -- And He would then tell them how His Law of Love was even stricter." [72] "Love is really the stricter law in the long run ... The [Mosaic] Law was only obeyed because they had to and they would only do as much as they were made to do, whereas love will ... go to the death and die for someone else to do the right thing." [73] While many aspects of this belief were easily accepted in theory by mainstream Christians, David applied it most shockingly to matters of sex. Simply put, he maintained that sex was not inherently evil in the eyes of God, and that loving consensual heterosexual relations, even outside of marriage, were permissible, as long as no one was hurt or offended. He explained: "Is sex a sin? Well, if there's anything I've tried to preach and tried to show the world, we're one of the few, if not the only religion of the world which doesn't teach that sex is sinful! Think of that! Isn't it horrible to think that nearly every other religion -- even if it doesn't actually directly teach so -- gives the impression by their practice that sex is sinful and somehow wicked?" [74] "Adam and Eve enjoyed sex before they ever fell, and before the Fall they were commanded to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the Earth, and were created with sexual organs to do so in the very beginning! -- So how could sex be sinful, if they were commanded to do it before the Fall?" [75] "Sex was created and instituted by God in the very beginning, and [was] the subject of His first commandment: 'Be fruitful and multiply!' (Genesis 1:22). [76] "Jesus said [in Matthew 22:37-39] this is all the law, the only law -- love! Therefore, whatever is done in pure love, the Love of God, unselfish love, sacrificial love, for God or others, is lawful, according to God's Word and Law of Love! As long, therefore, as it is in love with mutual consent and hurts no innocent one, it is lawful, according to God's Own Word and His Own Son, Jesus Christ! "The Apostle Paul also says, 'Against such (love) there is no law' (Galatians 5:23). Against this pure kind of love, the Love of God, the unselfish sacrificial Love of God and your fellow man, there is no law of God! According to the Scriptures there is therefore no longer any law against sex that is done in love, God's Love, and hurts no one." [77] "So enjoy yourself and enjoy life! Enjoy the pleasures and senses and the sensual pleasures of life which God has given you to enjoy as much as you please and as much as you need. Just don't enjoy them more than Him and more than His love. Don't worship the creation more than the Creator. Be sure that you put God first, and then you can have all this and Heaven, too!" [78] |
