This month Family Care started construction on the IT/Computer/Vocational Training Center for underprivileged youths, teenagers, and women in Lagos State, Nigeria. The center and college, one of which is already up and running in Enugu State, will serve as a training ground, enabling students to acquire international standard IT, computer, programming, and software skills. It will also serve as a business center, computer lab, and internet café. These services, made available to the public at a reasonable cost, will generate income for operational expenses, as well as payment of the training center’s administrator and lecturer.

The majority of students from underprivileged backgrounds will receive free scholarships. The center will also be open to non-sponsored students, whose tuition fees will generate income for the center.

We believe this training center will have a positive impact on the surrounding communities, and in Nigeria as a whole, through bridging the digital divide between the less privileged and the affluent of society, creating a springboard for sustainable development and growth at the grassroots level. It is our aspiration that this training center will be seen as a model for individuals, foundations, and corporate bodies to fulfill their social obligations by volunteering their time and resources, and sponsoring similar projects throughout Nigeria.
